Simulation Specialist – MCNP

We are looking for a Simulation Specialist to join our team full-time.

You will work with established Monte Carlo simulation tools and contribute to the development and refinement of in-house methods, models, and workflows for radiation transport and shielding.

You will take an active role in project execution, including technical analysis, interpretation of results, and interaction with clients and project partners.

The scope of the role can be adapted to the experience level of the candidate. Candidates with more extensive experience may take a leading role in technical topics and project execution.

Main applications

  • Radiation shielding design for medical and industrial beam facilities
  • Safety assessments and shielding concepts
  • Radiation transport and dose calculations in complex geometries

Typical customers

  • Proton and particle therapy facilities
  • Theranostic isotope production facilities
  • Medical device manufacturers and sterilization plants
  • Radiation therapy system vendors
  • Operators of accelerator-based facilities

You will work in an English-speaking, international environment with direct exposure to global projects.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary
  • A small, highly specialized international team
  • Flexible working conditions with up to 70% remote work (home office)
  • Opportunity to take technical ownership of projects and solutions
  • Work on highly specialized, real-world applications in a global niche field

The Candidate

You have a background in radiation physics, medical physics, or health physics and apply Monte Carlo methods confidently in practical engineering contexts.

Required

  • Strong, hands-on experience with MCNP6, particularly in radiation shielding applications
  • Solid understanding of Monte Carlo methods for radiation transport
  • Programming skills in Python (C++ or other languages are a plus)
  • Ability to work independently and take responsibility for technical work packages
  • Ability to communicate effectively with international clients
  • Fluency in technical English (German is not required)

Advantages

  • Experience with variance reduction techniques (e.g., weight windows)
  • Experience with activation calculations / inventory codes
  • Experience with CAD-based geometries and MCNP model generation
  • Knowledge of radiation protection in accelerator or medical environments

The Company

Meissner Consulting GmbH connects radiation therapy system manufacturers with architects and engineering partners. With expertise in particle accelerators as well as building design and construction, we bridge the gap between physics, engineering, and architecture.

Facility engineering for proton and heavy ion therapy is a highly specialized global niche. Only a small number of companies worldwide operate in this field.

As a focused, international team, we deliver our services to clients across the globe.
